Witchy Wednesday No. 7

Welcome back to our seventh Witchy Wednesday! Our reading comes from the Moon Magic deck by Marie Bruce. Our guides, Spirit, and our wise and well ancestors were very excited to share their messages with us! The cards came out quite dramatically, as if Spirit was waiting for the opportunity to jump out and connect. Let’s get into it!

Card #1

The first card of our reading this week is 36-Moon Stag. We see a beautiful, serene buck, holding the glowing moon within the protection of its antlers. His eyes stare calmly towards us and have a very soothing effect. Interestingly, if you look deeply into his eyes, the rest of the card seems to go out of focus.

We learn from the guidebook that this card is representative of the “Horned God” or “Stag Lord.” You can see that he is firm and steady and has a very regal energy (he quite literally is wearing a celestial crown). This card is an invitation to work more closely with this guardian energy. “He watches over you, his protection is absolute and…he will never leave you to fight your battles alone, for he is in your heart, giving you courage and making you bold.” Too often when life gets stressful, it is easy to feel as though you are alone, abandoned, or unseen. While you could continue down that spiral, you also have the option of choosing to believe that you are supported.

Whether you choose to believe that it is your highest self, your angels, Spirit, your wise and well ancestors, the Moon, or God (whatever that means to you), this card starts our reading off with a very clear reminder that they are always there beside you.

Another important note about this card is that the Moon Stag “comes to let you know that you hold a spark of divinity within you and he wants you to tap into it.” In a world that expects people to fit in and to be just another cog in the wheel of society, there is a message coming through that you are meant to do other things. The divinity in you might be expressed through oracle card readings for the collective (*wink wink*), your mad dance skills, your attention to detail at work, or your bubbly and welcoming personality. We each have our own unique gifts and can truly shine once we embrace them and start to live our lives leading with our hearts.

Card #2

The second card this week is 35-Black Cat. Yet another Familiar graces our reading this week! We see a charming little kitty friend sitting on a windowsill taking in the night sky. I find it interesting that the cat is sitting in darkness staring out into the universe, but then again, sometimes cats do silly things. If you have a cat you know that they tend to be very independent beings. They have sharp claws to protect themselves, a keen ability to seek out food, and they are very aware of their surroundings. This card is here to remind you that you can also be resourceful and strong. You can choose to be an independent queen (or king), with the power to create safety and prosperity for yourself.

Black Cat “wants you to develop a strong sense of autonomy, so that you have confidence in your own ability to thrive and survive.” How might you be able to nurture your own independence? Whether you are single or in a relationship, you can fuel your own inner light and claim your place in the world. You deserve to take up space.

Card #3

The last card of our reading today is 34-Toad. Wow! Three for three Familiar cards for this reading! If you recall, this guide has already shown up in one of our Witchy Wednesdays. The toad’s fierce eyes are calling to me this week and once I looked into them, I felt very invigorated and charged up, full of power.

The keywords of this card are “value, truth, and acceptance.” Acceptance stands out as particularly important for this reading. While Spirit may be all around us and our angels are there supporting us, that doesn’t mean that life won’t be an absolute dumpster fire sometimes. Toad is here as a reminder that we should aim to accept things that are outside our control and focus our energy and resources on creating the change that we are needing. Where might you be able to release some struggle or angst that you are gripping onto and take a moment to sit with your feelings and intuition and figure out what your next steps are?

Rune:

The rune this week is Kanu (also known as Kaunan and Kenaz). This rune can speak to protection, strength, and mental anguish, which, amazingly, were the themes of our three cards this week. Kanu can also be associated with light, which speaks to how we can be shown the way, but only if we slow down and take in the subtle signs and messages from the universe.

Reflection:

The first thing that I noticed immediately with the reading this week is that the cards showed up sequentially, counting down. I flipped through the deck quite surprised as this has never happened before, and no other cards in the 50 card deck were in order. It feels quite powerful that our guides brought these cards out together. It feels almost like a little joke: “Here is a Familiar… in case you didn’t get that, here is another Familiar… aaaand a third one!…okay I really hope you are picking up what we are putting down… you are supported!”

I also am drawn to the imagery of Moon Stag and Toad looking right at us, while Black Cat is looking away. It is as if they are reminding us that they are always on guard and watching our backs. If you feel called to, you can take a moment to sit with your angels, guides, and wise and well ancestors and let them know that you are listening, that you are looking for their signs, and are open to their messages. Even if you do not yet believe that you are protected, these beings of light and love are there for you and will continue to try and steer you down the path towards where you are meant to be.

Take solace in knowing that even when things seem shrouded in darkness, you are not alone.
