Witchy Wednesday No. 6
Annddd it’s Wednesday already! Welcome to week six of Witchy Wednesdays! This week we are returning to the “W.I.T.C.H. Woman In Total Control Of Herself” deck by Angi Sullins (with artwork by Silas Toball). Let’s get tuned into the messages from our guides, spirit, and our wise and well ancestors!
Card #1

The first card that came through today was 19–Alchemist of Pain. This card feels a bit spooky, with a woman wearing black, in the dense brush of a forest, pouring red, fiery liquid onto the ground. We see that the blood red liquid that has been given to the earth as an offering has been accepted, growing up and out through the plants in the surrounding area. I find it striking that the woman’s dress seems to be sliding off of her shoulder, as if she was pouring out her own darkness unto the earth.
This card highlights pain as a “sacred ally” whereas “suffering is a devourer of the psyche.” For healing to occur, we need to accept that the wound happened in the first place. Denying a situation that caused you pain or focusing so strongly on the unfairness of it all will lead you spiraling down into self-pity and sorrow.
This card focuses our attention on the process of feeling all of the feelings (the anger, hurt, betrayal, longing, passion) and then releasing them. “Let it bleed out… Only when you are willing to sit with your agony and companion your sorrow will you sense the medicine rising.” There is an invitation to openly experience the pain that comes with being human, and then to return that sacred energy back to the earth. “Ignore voices that suggest you should be over it by now.” There is no rushing your healing process. Sit and share space with the parts of you that feel broken. You can imbue them with compassion, patience, and understanding and allow space to fully learn and heal from the pain.
Card #2

The second card of our reading this week was 39-Companion. We see a woman energized, full of power, circling around a burning cauldron. She is adorned with beautiful jewelry and has a snake bracelet winding up her arm. The woman in the imagery is very focused on her process and seems to be in tune and inspired. The melting pot imagery speaks to me as a portal of transformation.
This card serves as a reminder that “your body is a marvel, a cauldron of celebration, home to spells of delight, healing and wonder.” The imagery of our body as this melting pot seems to question what you are putting into your own cauldron. If you are putting in decrepit thoughts, shame, and unfair expectations, you cast chains of sorrow and bury your self-esteem. What would it look like if instead you tempered with kindness, self-love, and radical acceptance?
Card #3

The last card of our reading this week was 37-The Wing Leader. We see several beings flying above a desert shrouded city. Women with wings, a woman on a pegasus, and a unicorn. They all are soaring together, leading each other onwards. The women are naked and the beasts are without a saddle. There is a lot of forward momentum seen from all of the characters depicted.
The guidebook explains that this card “is your call to action. Leap. Soar. Explore,” and that “you are now required to take a leap of faith and put your energies into motion.” While it is always important to take some time to think about the best course of action or to gather information, if you are only ever planning, you never take the first step towards your goal, dream, or transformation. “Put your brave boots on and be the girl who decided to go for it.”
This card also lends comfort to your anxieties around the changes you are going through. “If failure is your fear, remember that failure is an amazing teacher, and will guide you towards your next success. If the unknown is your hesitation, gently encourage yourself that the unknown is where all new life is born, and you deserve a new life.”
What positive energy could you start to utilize to forge a new path ahead?
Rune

The rune for this reading is Naudhiz. This rune can represent difficult times, constraints, and trepidation. It can also speak to the need for resilience and strength, as well as the need to take action.
Reflection
The cards this week highlight the importance of sitting with your pain, accepting it, and then releasing it. The rune also mirrors these themes showing that with intention, our fear, pain, and uncertainty can be balanced and peace can be restored. Even if the pain is something that has happened before or could happen again, the wisdom that you gain from your experience will put you in a better position should you ever encounter it in the future.
The progression of the imagery on the cards mirrors their message as well. The woman on the first card is shrouded in darkness and pain, but has light behind her. The woman in the second card is gleefully using the darkness and the fire to create something new and inspiring. And the women in the last card are moving bravely in the sunlight towards new horizons. Pour your passions, love, and affections back into your own cauldron. Learn your lessons, plan out the first few steps, and then walk bravely down your new path. Do not fear your darkness. Learn to sit with it, harness it, and allow it to propel you into a brighter future.
