Witchy Wednesday No. 4

Welcome to the fourth Witchy Wednesday! This week’s reading for the collective is coming from the “Moon Magic” deck by Marie Bruce. When I was choosing our deck for the reading today, the moon shone brightly and looked like a happy smile in the darkness of my bedroom. This was my sign that this wonderful deck had things to share with us!

Just like last week, I will also be adding a rune to our reading to bring additional information and confirmation to the messages that are coming through.

Card #1

The first card of our reading this week is 34-Toad. We see an ornately gilded toad, with vibrant red eyes and an intense stare, who is carrying gemstones on their back.

Toads and frogs are a common familiar for witches and if you live near water, you may recall being able to hear their songs in the dusk and dawn hours. These animals choose these darker hours to be most active and tend to hide during the daytime. Their affinity for these transitional hours are likely what makes them an excellent familiar.

The guidebook connects the toad's nature (of hiding during certain parts of the day) to our fears of being seen as our true, authentic self. It goes on by saying that when this card shows up in a reading “it is reminding you that beauty is within and that you should not hide your unique beauty away out of fear of a judgmental society.” This invitation pairs beautifully with the intense imagery. This card is prompting you to look inwards to the truth of who you are and to live passionately from that place, even if others don’t understand. How might you examine who you are at your core and bravely face the world from a genuine place instead of folding down and extinguishing your light in order to fit into the neat little box that society expects us all to fit into?

The gemstones on the toad’s back also are a message about the distinct gifts that each of us carry. If we utilize and bring these gifts forth, they can be a source of connection, pride, and inspiration. However, if we choose to try to hide or shame these gifts, they truly can become a weight on our shoulders. Embrace that which makes your heart sing and share your gifts, even if they are quirky, to the world.

Card #2

The second card of our reading today is 1-Dark Moon. We see a waning crescent moon surrounded by a sea of stars. She is sitting serenely over a dark body of water.

As this is the first card of the deck, it speaks to themes of a new journey, of the potential that we each have. The moon is also associated with the subconscious mind, so these new possibilities may not be obvious quite yet. We go on to learn that “this is a card of potential growth and transformation. All growth begins in darkness during a time of restoration.” Thus, there is also an invitation to slow down, to respect that all new things take time, and to open your heart and your mind to the possibilities of change.

While change tends to be something that brings up feelings of anxiety for most, how might you alchemize this energy, come to stillness, and make choices from this place of calm? No matter the outcome or the road ahead, know that you have the power and the strength to continue on your path. If something is meant for you, it will come to you, though it could be in unexpected ways.

Card #3

The last card of our reading was 25-Moon Goddess. On this card you see a woman, draped in stars as she stands on a comfortable bed that is seemingly floating on water. The stars are raining down on her and seem to be coming down from the moon herself.

This is a very magical card that shows that “the divine feminine is watching over you, offering guidance towards your full potential… she welcomes you into her realm and asks that you live a life that is true to the magic of your heart.” This card is confirmation that in order to be walking your divine path, you must do it from a place of authenticity.

The book goes on, urging you to “be bold and take the first step and the path will soon be revealed to you… there is far more to you than meets the eye… let the world see your light.” While it may be frightening to take steps along a path that isn’t exactly clear right now, what are some of the first steps that you can take towards living out the life of your dreams?

Rune

The rune that I pulled for this reading was the blank rune. Many traditional rune sets will have 24 symbols, while in others there are 25, with the additional one being blank (no symbol on it). This “rune” is thought to be related to the unknown. We are often seeking answers (even within this reading), but the blank rune calls for you to sit with that which is unknown and look for the wisdom in those dark, shrouded places.

Reflection

What beautiful synchronicities we are seeing in this reading! The cards and the rune speak of not being able to see a clear path ahead. Your guides are pushing you to trust in yourself, in your energy, and in your heart. Reorienting and reflecting on your current situation and your goals allows you to make changes to live a life from a place of authenticity, confidence, and peace. Instead of striving to be what other people want or expect of you, settle back into yourself and muse on what your life and relationships could look like if you lived as your true self.

Spirit, our wise and well ancestors, and our guides (including the Moon!) are sending you the message that even in the darkness, you are not alone. Take a pause, reestablish your connection to yourself and your dreams, sit in this space of potential, and know that you are guided and supported along your path.

It takes courage to make changes and to live authentically, but living life as your best, most beautiful self will give others permission to do the same. How beautiful would our world be if we all were to alchemize the past versions of self that are no longer serving us, and live from a place of love and respect for the unique gifts and light that we can each bring forwards?

It starts with you!
